June 4 - UMBI hosted a meeting on
key issues for the Biofuels Advisory Panel, part of the Chesapeake Cellulosic
and Advanced Biofuels Project (CCABP). The CCABP is part of the Chesapeake Bay
Commission, whose members include policy makers, legislators, scientists and
stakeholders concerned with providing national leadership for sustainable
next-generation energy sources. Dr. Jennie Hunter-Cevera, UMBI President, said
that "this meeting is a great opportunity to have a regional perspective on ways
to advance sustainable biofuels, so that our efforts are effective, efficient,
and reproducible, without causing environmental harm." The meeting, held in
Shady Grove on June 4, 2008, was chaired by State of Maryland delegate James W.
Hubbard.
