August 11, 2005 Co-Founder and CEO of GlycoMimetics, Inc. (GMI) Rachel King, Joins UMBI Board of Visitors Baltimore, MD - University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute’s (UMBI) President Dr. Jennie Hunter-Cevera today announced that Rachel King co-founder and CEO of GlycoMimetics has agreed to serve as a member of the UMBI Board of Visitors. UMBI is Maryland’s premier biotechnology research institute with five centers, three located in Baltimore, one in College Park and one in Rockville. UMBI is one of 13 independent institutions within the University System of Maryland. Rachel King is co-founder and CEO of GlycoMimetics, Inc. (GMI.) Before founding GMI, she was an Executive in Residence at New Enterprise Associates (NEA). Mrs. King came to NEA after serving as a Senior Vice President of Novartis Corporation. Before joining Novartis, Mrs. King spent ten years with Genetic Therapy, Inc. of Gaithersburg, Maryland, where she held various positions, including as the Company's CEO. Mrs. King also worked previously at ALZA Corporation in Palo Alto, California and at Bain and Company in Boston. She received her B.A degree from Dartmouth College and her MBA from Harvard Business School. Mrs. King currently serves on the Boards of MdBio, Emerging Technology section of the Biotechnology Industry Organization, and Imagination Stage. She is also a Member of the Dean's Council of the Harvard School of Public Health.  “We are delighted and honored to have Mrs. King as a member of UMBI's Board of Visitors,” said Dr. Jennie Hunter-Cevera. “Mrs. King has a wealth of experience in both big and small biotechnology companies and is very active in the biotechnology community.
