UMBI Day in Annapolis- Promoting Maryland's Biotechnology Institute

Wednesday, January 23 was the first UMBI Day in Annapolis. The day featured visits to selected legislators by Dr. Jennie Hunter-Cevera, President of UMBI, a promotional display in the Lowe House office building featuring the UMBI research centers and an evening reception and play hosted by the UMBI Board of Visitors. The reception and play were held at the Loews Annapolis Hotel. The play on bioethics was called "Honey and Sting", performed by BAPA's Imagination Stage. The play was sponsored by a biotech industry group, MdBio Inc. Besides legislators, several members of the USM Board of Regents and industry representatives attended the reception and play. Dr. Hunter-Cevera and UMBI was recognized by a House Resolution for its contribution to bioscience in Maryland on a visit to the House Chamber. This event was part of a continuing effort to familiarize Maryland policy makers with the UMBI as Maryland's Biotechnology Institute.
