UMBI is Maryland's premier biotechnology institute with expertise in human health, the marine environment, agriculture, protein engineering and structural and systems biology.
Internships at UMBI will provide an exceptional environment for specialized training and an opportunity for highly motivated students to explore career opportunities in research at one of our four research Centers.
The UMBI internship programs are immersion experiences that provide students the opportunity to learn cutting-edge techniques from our internationally renowned faculty researchers and to use our state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Who is eligible?
Currently enrolled high school or college students who have a solid academic preparation in the life sciences.
When are internships available and
how long do they last?
They are available year round and the length vary.
What will I be doing as a UMBI intern?
Interns will work in the lab with a UMBI scientist performing a guided scientific investigation.
Can I earn credit for a UMBI internship?
Credit may be available, depending on your school's requirements. Visit your school guidance office or registration office to learn more.

Center for Biosystems Research (CBR) in College Park and Rockville
Medical Biotechnology Center (MBC) in Baltimore
The Center of Marine Biotechnology (COMB) in Baltimore
The Center of Marine Biotechnology also partners with The Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center (LMRCSC). The LMRCSC is dedicated to increasing the number of minorities in the field of marine fisheries. Learn more about internships available through LMRCSC.
